Crossfire- A Series Review

Good evening, bibliophiles! Two posts in one day? What is happening? It's me trying to catch up on the blog posts I want to bring to all of you. I've been slacking, so here's hoping I can start to get back on schedule.

Tonight, I'm pretty excited because I'm finally bringing you one of my favorite series I've ever read! The books tonight were some of my first real glimpses at the romance genre, and I basically got sucked in afterwards. I'm talking about the Crossfire series by the one and only, Sylvia Day. I read the trilogy over three years ago, and waited for books four and five to be released before properly reviewing the complete set. Needless to say, that day is finally here! Let's delve into the world of Crossfire Industries, shall we?

Bared to You is where we first encounter the force that is Gideon Geoffrey Cross. He's brooding, isolated, and the master of his own universe, but little does he know, an encounter with a feisty blonde is going to change everything he's ever known.

Eva Tramell is a recent transplant to New York City from San Diego, California. Gideon Cross is the mogul of majority of Manhattan, one of the most eligible bachelors, and owner of Cross Industries. One day, when Eva takes a jog and visits where she'll be working as an administrative assistant to a massive advertising firm, she winds up in the lobby of the Crossfire, and in the path of one Gideon Cross. When they literally slam into each other, the ground shifts, and both of their worlds are forever turned upside down.

I just need to say that I am SO glad I met these two! To say I was obsessed with Gideon's intensity and Eva's strength right from the beginning is a total understatement. I had times when I wanted to keep Gideon in my own bed and other times, I was so angry with him that my heart broke...because I still loved him anyway. I can NOT get enough of this man  or this couple!

If you want a sexy read similar to Fifty Shades but actually written well, I highly suggest this series!

My Final Rating: five out of five stars

Reflected in You means more Gideon, and more heartbreak! Mine was in my throat for such a chunk of this book and although I had faith in Eva and Gideon, I still worried nonstop.

When most couples are just starting out, their lives are like a fairy tale and everything is perfect. Gideon and Eva are not most couples, and I kind of admire them for it, because I just had a feeling in my gut that they'd fight for each other. Both of them have pasts consisting of abuse, and as two survivors, they must learn to navigate and build a life together, while also trying to banish their demons once and for all. It's when those pasts come back to haunt them, that all hell breaks loose, and they wind up on the brink of losing everything they've created as a couple.

What a sexy sequel. I couldn't put it down yet struggled with trying to pace myself just so I could spend more time with this amazing pair.

My Final Rating: five out of five stars

I love love loved the third installment in this series, Entwined With You!! I know some other reviews felt it was dragging when it didn't need to, but personally, I adored every second! With book two being the emotional rollercoaster that it was, it seemed like book three and their attempt at a happy ending wasn't possible. I'm so glad that us readers got something worthwhile after everything this couple had been through in their short time together.

I'm a total sucker for having all loose ends tied up and this did it and I STILL crave more of this couple. I know it seems pointless to keep going with this story to make books four and five, but I think since this series has been bought to be adapted for television, I could see it still going. Oh goodness, Gideon on my tv every week.. Now that makes a girl all warm and fuzzy inside. I can't wait!

My Final Rating: five out of five stars

I've waited over a year for more Gideon, and I finally got that with Captivated by You. Sylvia Day does NOT disappoint! I couldn't form words for this installment once I was done with it.

Gideon and Eva.. Will this couple ever catch a break? They really do get hit from all angles in this book, but I love how fiercely they hold onto each other to try and get through every obstacle. After book three was done, I breathed a sigh of relief thinking that they got their happily ever after and were in the clear from turmoil, and I was 110% wrong on all counts.

After a private vacation, the couple have a massive secret they're trying to keep under wraps and enjoy for a little while, but once they get back to Manhattan, it seems the world has turned against them, and their bubble of happiness bursts.
Gideon is a dream, as usual. I totally need one of my very own. He's fantastic, despite how shattered he has been throughout his life. Eva is such a good match for him, so I wish people would stop trying to destroy what they're trying to build together. I would personally enjoy some Cross babies next but who knows!

I could NOT imagine what book five would bring, nor the television series! Sylvia could honestly write 20 books about Mr. Cross and I'd never tire of him, or his life with Eva. Now there's an idea!

My Final Rating: five out of five stars

The other day, book five, the last in the series, One With You was finally released. Despite a million interruptions, I finished it, and along with the bittersweet feeling of saying goodbye to this series, I'm also split in two on how I felt once I was finished. I'm sure most of you who have already read it may be wondering what I'm thinking once you see my final rating, but just hear me out. Honestly, I'll do my best to try to explain how my head is compartmentalizing aspects of this last installment.

I've adored this series since I first met Gideon and Eva back in 2013. These characters were absolute forces to be reckoned with, complete and total storms brewing, and I loved every tortured, agonizing, whiplash minute of their journey. From Bared To You all the way through to One With You, I've enjoyed  seeing how this couple was able to grow and defeat not only their demons, but also every outside.

For roughly 80-85% of this book, I loved where it was going. I was so excited for everything the pair had coming their way for once. Loose ends were being settled and all the people who tried to tear these two apart were being put in their place. Gideon and Eva were waiting so long for their happily ever after, and I was thrilled they were finally on the same page and ready for the next chapter.

It was towards the end when a random situation with Monica (Eva's mother) happened that everything turned negative for me, and I wound up disappointed. It caused the ending to feel rushed and left too much up in the air and not quite as happy as one would imagine if you were Gideon or Eva.

Maybe it's because I hate endings (hello, guilty American here.. our shows and books go on for way too long), but if all that nonsense was going down out of the blue, the book could have ended there and then there could have been just one more story in the works. Having to crunch an ending into 50ish pages wasn't the way to go for me, and I was left a bit gobsmacked that after everything I went through with these two, that was all I would get as a way of tying everything up in a neat little bow. I'm trying to be okay with it, but for now, that ending along with the awareness of never having more Gideon and Eva in my life just leaves me feeling sad. If that makes sense.

The four stars I decided on at the end are because when it comes to the couple themselves, they were perfection as always. I just love their dynamic, and I always have. I refuse to absolutely pan one of my favorite love stories just because of a choppy ending that I didn't picture in my head. No, I'm not happy with it, but I was immensely satisfied for so much of the overall series that I just don't have the heart to feel entirely crushed beyond repair.

I suppose I'll just wait and see what licensing brings to the tv series (whenever that hits the small screen), and in the meantime, I'll keep my fingers crossed for at least a novella of some sort, because I just need more of these two, even if it's only a sliver.

My Final Rating: four out of five stars

Playing For Love and Beautiful: Cover Reveals Times Two!

Holy Moses, everyone! I apologize for slacking on posts this whole weekend. I just did NOT have a minute to bask in the excitement. What excitement, you ask? We have TWO new cover reveals, and I for one, am positively giddy!

Expanding the blog to incorporate not only reviews, but book hauls, cover reveals, TBRs, etc has already put me behind the eight ball. With work, an attempt at a sliver of a social life, tackling my pile of stories, and bringing posts for all occasions makes me feel like I'm already slacking (which I am). There are only so many hours in the day, but I hope to get to these posts as soon as I'm able.

Now that I've given a bit of a disclaimer, let's dive into the good stuff, shall we?

First up, we have Playing For Love from the one and only J.C. Grant. I reviewed her debut novel, Playing For Keeps a few months back, and needless to say, I'm beyond ready for more of the powerhouse that is David Taylor. BEWARE!!! This is an erotic romance, so read at your own risk!

**COMING SOON** Updates and Giveaways!

Hello and good evening, bibliophiles!! I hope everyone is having a lovely (and book-filled) weekend! It's Friday evening in my neck of the woods, and since I'm super popular and social, I thought I'd spend a moment to announce some ideas I'm bringing to the blog and also give you all your first chance at a giveaway! Get excited!

In the last few months, this community has grown into something of its own. I am in no way "internet famous" or doing things on a grandiose scale, but some of the opportunities that have come my way have caused me to do some pondering and become stoked about ways I can expand this bookish little blog! These ideas have been festering for awhile, but now I'm ready to actually put a bit of extra time and bring these new creations into this literary world.

1) Reviews: Yes, they're going to continue. As I stated in a past blog post, if the book or series I'm reading has made the crossover into film or television, I hope to include my perspective, thoughts, and reviews on the screen adaptations as well. With that expansion, there should be some movie trailers, clips, and visuals of the sort coming your way. Just gives the book reviews that much more definition.

2) ARCs: Having this space and a platform on social media has allowed me opportunities to work with up-and-coming authors who are looking for people to read and review their books honestly. These stories are called ARCs (advanced reader copies). As an avid reader, blogger, writer, and reviewer, I can't tell you how thankful I am every time an author reaches out to me and looks for my input. Yeah, they say opinions are like assholes (pardon my french) and everyone has one. I am well aware that I'm no different from any other blogger/vlogger out there, but I hope I bring some sort of personality and unique voice to the literary world. Not only do I get advanced peaks at new material, but I'm also lucky enough to have a chat here and there with the authors and other reviewers and wind up forming friendships that stretch across states and continents. For a common love of reading, like I said, I'm thankful and can't wait to include more ARCs in the review process.

3) Book Hauls, Shelfies, and TBRs: I thought this would be a fun little aspect of my universe in the reading process, from the book-buying experience, to my ever-expanding reading piles, what my shelves are looking like these days, more of an idea of the genres I'm obsessing over at the moment, and more. Maybe this is me being straight-up geeky about my books, but I thought it would be fun to delve into.

4) Cover Reveals: This is new even for me. More authors are looking for bloggers to share covers when they are released in order to create hype for pre-order and eventual sales. I'm right there with them and for them. These are authors of all kinds of genres and I admire their stories and work, so I'm happy to help spread the love. Plus, we all adore a gorgeous cover, even if they tell us not to judge our books by them. They're still pretty to look at, right?

5) Miscellaneous Projects: From entires like My Ultimate Dream Library and A Bookish Rant, I enjoy getting any thoughts and feedback I can about their experiences with books. Whether I'm being contacted to come up with my fantasy shelves or we're talking about book shaming or what non-readers say to you when you choose books over a social life, I'd love to talk about it!

6) Giveaways: This is exactly how it sounds. I don't do these too often because I find it hard to get that creative in the giveaway aspect, but I do love giving out bookish treats when I can! Keep your eyes peeled.... because it starts now! Check it out!!

***Hey hey! Happy Friday! Anyone fancy a Christina Lauren ✨GIVEAWAY✨ this is entirely due to my stupidity. I forgot I had pre-ordered #BeautifulBoss via Amazon... And when I went to my local B&N before it was even released, I happened to spot it out on the shelves and grabbed one. Thanks to my silly jackrabbit skills.. You'll now benefit!! Who can resist a free book?! I know I can't! Here's what you have to do, follow me on Instagram, tag a friend, repost, and go like my Facebook page, The Blabbing Bibliophile, for a chance to win! I'll choose a winner on Monday (4/5/16)... So... Good luck!!***

~Beautiful Boss (#4.5 in the Beautiful Bastard Series by Christina Lauren!
The ninth work in the New York Times and #1 internationally bestselling series that started with Beautiful Bastard. In this e-novella, Will Sumner and Hanna Bergstrom (from Beautiful Player) find that a wedding and everlasting love were just the beginning.

One Player tamed. One nerd girl satisfied. And one more major life decision to make. When Will fell for Hanna, her quirky sense of humor and fierce dedication to her career were part of the attraction. (Not to mention her coy newbie attitude toward sex and her willingness to let him teach her everything.) But when the job offers start rolling in for her—and oh, they do—Hanna has trouble deciding what she wants, where they should live, and how much she should burden Will with the decision. Magic between the sheets is only one part of a relationship...getting on the same page is quite another altogether.

9 Letters- A Review

Good evening, bibliophiles! I'm spending a quiet evening at home and after a bookstore run, decided to bring everyone my latest book review! It's called 9 Letters by Blake Austin. I finished it late last night, but decided to think on it a bit before I posted what I was feeling.  I have to say, I'm still not entirely sure how I feel now that it's over.

I just came off of reading a heavy World War II novel, so I figured a romance might be up my alley for something quick and light-hearted. Obviously I was wrong. Why is that?

Meet Luke Cawley. He's a young widower trying to wade through life without his beloved wife, Emily. He lost her to cancer a year prior to the audience meeting him. Through a mix of flashbacks, and a series of letters he receives on the anniversary of her death that she had written days before her passing, we're with him as he tries to lick his wounds and heal.

In her letters, Emily gives Luke closure. She comes to terms with her condition, and offers him words of encouragement to keep living even after she's gone. She also gives him a series of tasks and challenges in order to get her husband out of his funk and back among the land of the living.

Death is easy when you're the one who's gone. For the rest of us left on earth, it's something else entirely. Luke isolates himself from friends and family, and gives up on a lot of who he was when he was happily married. Losing his wife when they were barely into their twenties was not in his plans, and now, he doesn't know how to cope.

I enjoyed the lessons offered throughout this story, and found the characters quite relatable. As someone who has encountered quite a bit of death throughout my own (youngish) life, I was able to really understand where Luke was coming from when it feels like the world is ending.

I'm thrilled Luke began to come around the more he read the letters. He knows he'll never be the same again, but that doesn't mean he's not allowed another chance at happiness. Thanks to King, Rae, some of his old friends, Morris, Heartland Habitat, his sister in-law, Natalie, and his own family, I have hope that he'll return to some level of normalcy the more the days go on, without letting Emily's memory fade.

It seems silly, but, the only reason I gave this three stars instead of anything more was because of a bit of back-speak and double negatives. Maybe it had to do with the southern, country lives of the characters, but some of it made me cringe.

Overall though, an enjoyable, but bit of a sad and tragic read, so, approach with caution.

My Final Rating: three out of five stars

The Shadow (Florentine #2)- A Review

Good evening, all! Happy Monday! Thank goodness it's almost over. It's been a long day on my end and all I have wanted to do since I woke up this morning, was to relax and review a book for every single one of you. Thankfully, my night has begun to wind down so I can do just that.... so, hooray! It's about time, because I am absolutely chomping at the bit to get this latest read out to everyone! Sylvain Reynard has released his newest book, so needless to say, I've been fingerling since my copy of The Shadow arrived in the mail the other day. Instead of going crazy with being formal and doing any sort of editing, Im' going to just jump in and gush over these pages. I've been awake since 6am, so just bear with me. Shall we?

Are any of us really shocked that Reynard has come up with another dazzling installment to his series? I'm definitely not! The Shadow is book two (technically three) in his Florentine series. You can read my earlier review of his novella, The Prince, and book one, The Raven, here.

I know I talk about this author and his books to death, but they're stunning (honestly, I can't praise any of these stories enough)! I first encountered Reynard's work when I discovered his Gabriel series. I read that trilogy two or three years ago and have yet to meet a love story I adored more. I give them a re-read as often as I can, and it's just and gorgeous a story the fourth time as it was the first. The Florentine series is a spinoff and continuation of his original trilogy, only Sylvain takes it to another level. Not a surprise, but it's just as enchanting as all the other prior installments. To start at the beginning, check out books one through three of the Gabriel series. You can read my review here.

As the girl who can swear she has not met a vampire novel she's actually liked to date (I honestly don't even read them... Twilight scarred me enough), I can honestly say, this series is the exception and you must give it a go! I know these stories began as Twilight fan fiction, so even approaching the Gabriel series, I was hesitant, but it really morphed into its own tale. The Florentine series delves into the shadows that lurk the streets of Florence at night, but unlike most vampire stories, these beings are not only ancient, but also magical and majestic.

Combining romance, thrill, mystery, fantasy, history, culture, and danger that spans across the globe and centuries as well, The Shadow is a roller coaster of a ride and fantastic continuation of The Raven, and our newest swoony book boyfriend, William York.

Raven and William are learning the ropes of their alluring feelings to one another, but with her being a human, and him being something other worldly, they face their fair share of challenges.

Not only are they approaching the unknowns of their relationship with caution, but trouble seems to be lurking around every corner trying to tear them apart. The police are investigating Raven for the theft of priceless Dante pieces that have gone missing from the Ufizzi, William must face a traitor among his own kind which could mean the end of his people, Raven's abusive step father is back in the picture, and an order of Jesuit priests (known as The Curia) are trying to steal Raven from William and separate the lovers for good.

Speaking of Dante, our beloved professor from the Gabriel series, Mr. Emerson, and his beloved Julianne make return cameos. Although they weren't as prominent as they were in book one (there's no such thing as "too much" when it comes to the professor, so on this front, I was a bit gloomy), I still adored getting more time with the Emersons and their growing family, even if it was just a sliver of an update.

William York may be the epitome of darkness, but Raven sees his internal light, and so do I. I can't help but take his side and hope everything turns out for the best for these two!

PS- the bonus bit with Gabriel & Julia in the end had me fangirling like no other! At first, I wasn't sure what to make of it, but letting it fester in my brain a bit after I had shut the book and gone to bed had me thinking my darling professor just got a million times hotter (which I didn't know was possible)!

My Final Rating: five out of five stars

The Professor- A Review

Happy Monday, bibliophiles! Long time, no review! Life has gotten slightly hectic and there just aren't enough hours in the day to binge read the way I want to lately. That being said, I'm sad it took me as long as it did to get through a book with 161 pages. However, it was an awesome read and I can't wait to tell you about it!

The Professor by Tshombe was recommended to me by one of my book friends on Instagram, and I can't thank them enough for doing so (thank you, thank you, thank you)! Based on the summary, I couldn't really tell what I was getting into, so I figured I'd just dive in slightly blind and find out as I went along. It did NOT disappoint in the slightest.

This book was an absolute treat from start to finish! I only regret that adulating and responsibilities got in the way so it took me longer than I would have liked to simply binge and find out what would happen next! Seriously, I need to re-evaluate my priorities.

The Professor is the perfect book for anyone who is a fan of psychology, sociology, philosophy, the unanswered questions of life and the human purpose, thrills, suspense, surprises, plot twists, etc. I could go on and on but I'm also not trying to give away too many spoilers here so you need to just stop what you're doing and go read this book.

Reading this reminded me of Shutter Island or A Beautiful Mind. The Professor is a brilliant man who enlists five carefully selected, gifted students for a course on the real humanity, what we think it is, and what it actually is for which we have zero awareness. What's real and what's being spoon-fed to us? Who are we as a species, who is in control, what constitutes as law? The book poses so many questions and no answers while you find yourself craving an explanation that you may or may not ever receive.

There's also the TRUTH. The Professor is a peculiar man. He is gifted beyond words with accomplishments and accolades that seem never-ending. He also has a wife he loves more than life itself, and a daughter he has never met. You must wonder why. The purpose of his class makes one wonder if it's designed to teach you something, or if he has selected you for more selfish purposes.

The journey he takes with his class becomes an absolute roller coaster and (pardon my language) total mind f*ck the deeper you delve into the novel. Beware and read at your own risk. Things are not at all what they seem and you need to decide what's real and what's an illusion.... but, class is in session.

Go meet the professor!!!

My Life on the Road- A Review

Goooooooooood evening to all my bibliophiles out there! No, your eyes are not deceiving you, I'm posting for a second time today. Earlier, I posted a blog about this literary project I was asked to participate in, and it was really fun. Incase you missed it, you can check it out here!

I'm not going to waste time rambling, and instead, I'll get right to my latest review. I don't want to get too ahead of myself, but I think it's safe to say that My Life on the Road by the one and only Gloria Steinem will be the most significant book of 2016.

I wandered past this book a time or two in my local B&N, but it wasn't until I came across a headline on my Twitter account that I put it on my "must read" list. I'm sure every bookworm and Harry Potter fan out there knows Emma Watson has decided to start a book club. If you haven't joined it yet, you can do so here. With all of her work with UN Women, she has compiled a list of empowering novels meant for every woman to not only read, but embrace for her own future as well. I'm going to take it a step further and say that not only women should be joining this group and reading these selections. Men and women alike should pick up copies of the books as they are selected and educate themselves on issues that pertain not only to an entire gender, but also to humankind as a whole. The more you are informed, the more you can benefit from the learned material. I digress...

Gloria Steinem is a name I've heard in passing for years now, but I'm ashamed to say, I never paid close enough attention to the work she has been doing for the last several (and lengthy) decades. Reading her story absolutely blew me out of the water.

Beware. She does tackle serious subject matter. Her experiences deal with so much more than women's liberation and gender equality. I learned more than I ever thought I could about travel and the issues surrounding politics, journalism, sexism, racism, big business, economics, and more. Her knowledge about little nuances when it came the the previously mentioned issues in not only America, but across the globe, left me astounded.

Don't let the severity of the subject matter deter you from grabbing a copy of this book (if you haven't already). With such intense times upon us in 2016, this book is a must must must must MUST-read. Our words and our actions ripple and affect people we didn't even know we could possibly have reached in the first place. Not only will you gain insight to such social and political thoughts and ideas, but you'll learn tolerance and understanding for those unlike yourself. Gloria's thoughts make it nearly impossible to construct an argument as to why she isn't right in her experience and wisdom. She was a first-hand witness to so much, and also backed up events she witnessed with her own eyes with lengthy references (goodness, I'm a nerd for a footnote).

I can't thank Gloria enough for touching on and sharing her years on the road for all of us. Because of her, not only do I want to travel more than I already do, but I also want to continue to learn as much as I can about such significant and profound issues in order to contribute to the progression of a successful society. The fact that events she discussed from forty years ago are still relatable today means we need to keep evolving, changing, and bettering our world instead of repeating history.

Proper words to swoon over this book escape me. I hope these thoughts do it justice for now. If you choose only one book to read this year, let it be this one!

Beautiful Burn- A Review

Good evening to all my bibliophiles out there! Happy Sunday Funday! This weekend was a bit productive on my end, thank goodness! We got hit with a massive snow storm here on the east coast of the US, so thankfully, I was able to take an afternoon to myself to settle into a book without much interruption from real life. Unlike most, I enjoy the cold and snow so that I'm able to shut myself in for a bit and lose myself in a book universe and keep reality at bay if even for a little while. I'd assume my fellow bookworms could agree wholeheartedly. Who wouldn't adore a pile of blankets, a cup of coffee (or tea) and a stack of novels?

Anyway, my TBR list is stacking up. I seem to buy or download books faster than I can read them. I've found it extremely challenging lately to decide what I should read next. I seem to want to read everything at the same time, and since that's not possible, I wind up sitting in a funk. Yesterday, thankfully, I was able to delve into an ebook I've been waiting to read for awhile and I just couldn't wait anymore. Since the Gabriel Series by Sylvain Reynard is one of my favorites, I decided to look up more stories with a similar plot line (if you're interested in a student/teacher romance, give this list a go: popular student teacher romance books). Beautiful Burn by Adriane Leigh just had something I had to check out (I judged by it's cover.. don't hurt me).

I knew my instinct was right because I absolutely could NOT put this book down! It grabbed me right from the very beginning and I decided to put off everything I had planned for the day in order to see how it would all turn out.

Reed West is a high school English Teacher and Auburn Lawrence is his former student. They've always been lured towards one another, but their timing wasn't right, and it was too taboo. Three years later, Auburn is at university while Reed is still teaching (and married... well, separated). When Reed gets the opportunity to teach a Creative Writing course over the summer months, he and Auburn cross paths for the first time in a long time. This go-round, there is no denying or ignoring their feelings, and the results are explosive.

Not only did I adore the story and the characters, but the writing was gorgeous. I always enjoy my romance novels, but most are quick, succinct, and even have a pinch of humor, sarcasm, or darkness. While this novel did have its bleak points, the writing never wavers and reads like a poem or a song. The descriptions of people, places, and overall ambiance reminded me of a few treasured classics. Since Leigh made numerous references to Hemingway and Fitzgerald, I assumed that was the point of her words and what they wound up creating in modern day.

One thing I had noticed other reviews say was that the story was good for what it was, and I wasn't quite sure how to take that going into the material. Now that I've closed this book, I understand. It's not the typical romance with some drama and an eventual happy ending all tied up in a sweet, little bow. The path Reed and Auburn took together led to an ending I wasn't expecting, and wasn't fully okay with either. Yes, there is the drama and angst, but there's also a bombshell or two that just seemed to come out of nowhere.

Since I had read prior reviews, I knew to tread carefully when approaching this text. I just knew something big would happen in this story, but it wasn't the "something" I was expecting.

Reed and Auburn are pretty amazing. They have such chemistry and they keep crossing paths, but once they decide to become something, will their attraction and magnetic force that pulls them together keep them together in the long run? You'll have to find out for yourself. I really hope you enjoy a good rollercoaster! Keep the tissues nearby. That's my only warning.

First Touch (First and Last Book #1)- A Review

Hello out there to all of my bibliophiles! Long time, no see! I hope everyone had amazing holidays, and an even more festive and Happy New Year! To those of you who were doing the Reading Challenge from goodreads, did you meet your goals? How many of you are participating this year? Personally, I JUST finished my goal of a hundred books right under the wire, and then I decided to spend some time with my favorite professor, Gabriel Emerson from the Gabriel series by Sylvain Reynard. I somehow always have a rendezvous with him around the new year, and I never regret a moment of our time together! That is the reason I haven't updated in quite awhile! My profound apologies! It's time to get back into the swing of things!

I just finished my first new book for the new year (and number 1 in my goal of 200 books for 2016)! I celebrated my birthday just after the new year, so I took myself on a Barnes & Noble date. I used up $85 worth of gift cards, and spent another mini fortune on top of that as well. I got some good books in my latest haul, and I can't seem to get to them fast enough! I decided to start out with a new book from a new series of an author I adore, First Touch, part of the First and Last series by Laurelin Paige. As I've stated previously, I will be grouping series reads together when I can. In this case, it was a new release, and the rest of the books haven't been put on the shelves yet, so I had to make an exception.

For my first of 2016 that wasn't a re-read of an old favorite, I was slightly disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Laurelin Paige and her steamy work, but there was something about this story I couldn't connect to all throughout the plot. Let's see if I can explain properly.

I know Emily is messed up in her sexual habits, and she's on a mission to get revenge on her friend, but I'm not entirely sure why. It's not clear if the missing friend (Amber) is dead or alive, plus said friends fell out of touch almost a decade before. It was quite foggy for me.

Also, there's Reeve. He has an empire of sorts, he's hotter than sin, he's mysterious, and he may be linked to a mafia murder. Emily knows these dangers, but if anything, it only draws her to him even more.

While these two had chemistry, there's just something I couldn't attach myself to when it came to them both as a couple, and as individuals. They had so many secrets, which kept them from connecting to each other properly, and in turn, kept me from clinging to them as an outside participant.

This story did have its twists and turns. I know this is the first in a new series, so I will stick with it because I know it has the potential to build into something great. I was intrigued by the storyline, so now I just have to hope I get some answers and more development so that I can really appreciate these characters the way I know they deserve.

On Dublin Street- A Series Review

Hello, fellow bibliophiles! Long time, no see! My apologies. I started reading a series that had more books involved than I had anticipated, so I had to get through all of them before I brought you a proper review. I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season, and you're ready to move into the New Year with an endless TBR pile waiting for you! There's a lot being reviewed today, so I'm going to just jump into it. Today, I'm discussing the On Dublin Street series by Samantha Young. With this series, you have to be careful, because there are a lot of little novellas and treats in between each larger story. It's a lot to keep in order, but you'll see as we go along.

Book one is titled after the series, On Dublin Street. I gave this four stars because it had a lot of things I look for in a romance novel. There was the hot-as-all-sin alpha, angst, seduction, the comforts and excitement that comes with new love, conflict, etc... but there were parts of this story I just didn't love, and even days later, I'm still debating on my rating.

Basically, the heroine of the novel is annoying as they can possibly get. Look, she lost her family in a tragic accident while she was just beginning to navigate her adolescent years, but her ways of coping (or lack thereof) as an adult are just beyond ridiculous and unacceptable. Every human on earth deals with death, we've all dealt with our own tragedies and demons, but at some point or another, you learn to pick yourself up and keep living. I know we all grieve in our own ways, but hers is completely unhealthy and insanely selfish.

Joss is living in a new country, has a new roommate she adores, is finally working on her dream career, and even has a gorgeous man pursuing her to no end, but she's so stuck on the past she never dealt with properly, that she almost destroys it all before it has a chance to even bloom into something gorgeous.

Thank God for Braden. Yes, he's relentless and territorial and everything an alpha is supposed to be, and some women don't like that, but on some level, how can you not? The man wants and cares for her so much that he has this overwhelming need to claim her. He looks to be there for her first thing in the morning, and last at night. He wants to go on dates, practically snarls if other males start sniffing around, and makes her see herself and them as a couple for the better. Parts of his character and methods seem a bit archaic, but they're merited. It was because of his determination to keep her and fix her (even though she absolutely didn't deserve it or him) that I kept reading until the end.

My Final Review: four out of five stars

An On Dublin Street Christmas is the first in the novella portion of the overall series. This was a lovely little treat and interlude after coming off of On Dublin Street. After all the heaviness of the first book, it was nice to take a little break and witness Joss and Braden enjoying their Christmas together. Having Joss act like a happy, adult human was what I enjoyed the most. Braden has learned to deal with her panic attacks, and they've settled into a great routine. Fingers crossed for them!

Here is where things got a bit dicey for me. I somehow missed this one in my chronological journey through this series. I'm glad I double-backed to give it a read. An On Dublin Street Halloween brought some comic relief to my reading journey.

This did not go the way I thought it would, but it was a nice and light interlude in this whole crazy batch of characters. Braden and Joss are not always as sexy as they seem, but I'm glad they offered a few laughs along the way.

I won't be looking at James Bond, Snow White, or The Ghostbusters the same ever again!

Until Fountain Bridge also serves as a break before the larger novels of the series return. Already, we have three novellas involved in this batch of books, so it gets a bit daunting. You feel like you're making progress and a dent in your reading, when in reality, you haven't gotten as far as you would have hoped at this point.

Anyway, this was a sweet interlude in the series. I enjoyed getting to know more about Ellie and Adam. Their history consists of numerous good and bad moments which makes their time together now even more cherished.

I couldn't quite decide how I felt about the flashback diary entries reading like actual dialogue. I know that no girl would actually write what actually transpired word-for-word in her journal, but then I tried to envision if it were a flashback in a movie, the characters would be acting out the events and talking to each other to make the memory... memorable. When I got into that mindset, it was much more tolerable to read.

My Final Rating: four out of five stars

Now we're getting back into the novels. Down London Road is actually book two in the ODS saga.

This story was pretty heart-breaking. Jo has had a rough go in life, and she busts her ass day-in and day-out to provide for her brother, Cole, and keep her alcoholic mother alive. When she meets Cam, everything in her world changes.

Jo has a type of man and a system for which she keeps them. Her focus is her brother and keeping a roof over their heads. Getting emotionally involved with someone isn't an option for her. She can't do anything to mess up and have Cole taken from her by social services.

Cameron McCabe is a tornado in the middle of Jo's world. He's the exact opposite of her type, he aggravates her, makes her laugh, sends chills down her spine, and wakes up the dormant feelings inside her. When they start working together at Club 39, it's not long before they can no longer fight their attraction to one another.

I think out of all the books in this series so far. This one has been my favorite to date. While the couple did push each other's buttons in the worst ways and made stupid mistakes from time-to-time, I kept cheering for them to have their happily ever after.

My Final Rating: four out of five stars

Before Jamaica Lane (aka book three) is my favorite in the series. Nate is to die for.. And Olivia the university librarian? How kick ass?! I related to Liv far more than even I'd like to admit, but she got her happy ending. Maybe it makes me feel like I can get mine too. Who knows!

When they fought, they fought hard, and there were so many gray areas and lines they should or shouldn't cross that when they did fight, I wasn't sure which side to take in the matter.

I kind of love how they did things in such a weird and round-about way. They didn't go with convention, and that made them all the more interesting to me. I hope I hear more from them in the near future!

Looky here! We have another novella on our hands (which I almost forgot to include in the review... whoops). Castle Hill brings us back to our original couple, Joss and Braden, and the next chapter in their lives. I enjoyed getting time with them again. While elements of this novella were a bit Twilight-y for me, I liked going on a journey with them to the new chapter in their lives.

I was not expecting their wedded bliss to go the way it did for a chunk of this story. It was heart-wrenching and it drove me mad that they didn't just talk to each other, but rather, were content to exist on assumptions. I wanted to scream at both of them to no end!

Needless to say, I can't wait for more of these two! I'd love to see what happens next!

My Final Rating: four out of five stars

Fall From India Place, book four, is my least favorite in the series. Marco I loved, Hannah, not so much. Her character almost made me stop reading the book. However, I was so close to the end by time I realized how much I disliked her that I just needed to finish.

Listen, I fully understand they both had a ton of shit thrown their way and they both dealt alone and in very different ways.

Marco found his potential and became an adult. His past shaped his future and molded him into something better. He wants to do better and become a better man so the past doesn't repeat itself.

For being such a brilliant bookworm, Hannah sure is stupid (and selfish and cruel) She let's her past shape her, but she lets it get the best of her. She ignores her support system and everything and everyone who wants to help her, and it almost destroys her chance at a happy future. In my opinion, she didn't deserve to have Marco chase after her for as long and as hard as he did for so long. He wanted to prove himself and she kept stomping on his heart. Every time I thought she'd give him a chance, she proved me wrong. It got to the point, she couldn't redeem herself in my eyes.

I get that Marco loved her since they were kids, but I almost wish he was just a bit stronger and chose someone who treated him well. Unless Hannah proves herself more in a later book somewhere, I won't cheer for them the way I should. The ending of the book didn't even make me fee giddy for them.. I just couldn't trust Hannah.

Echoes Of Scotland Street take us into the future. Remember Jo's baby brother, Cole? He's all grown up now and making girls weak in the knees! Cole might be a close second to Nate as my favorite. He's a genuinely good guy, and lord knows, there aren't enough of them in the world.

I was so nervous the whole time that Shannon would revert to her old ways, and that's where the drama would come in between her and Cole, but I was pleasantly surprised.

If you're reading this book, I'm assuming you've read the stories prior, so we all know Cole's back story, but hearing Shannon's was something new (sort of). Obviously, she comes with emotional baggage. She has a dark and messed up past that Cole decides to heal once they cross paths.

I'm really glad Cole was right and could coax Shannon into something real, and something GOOD. She never knew good before he came along. Like I said, my paranoia came in thinking she'd revert to her skittish ways thinking she only attracted bad.

I knew they'd work through their issues, the question was just how they would go about it. The ending was a pleasant surprise. I could see it coming, but reading it as it played out was thrilling. Go big, or go home!

More novella time! Luckily, this one was my favorite out of all of them. Valentine was amazing! I loved getting to re-visit all the characters while they each got their fair-share of center stage.

Each couple gets a segment to tell their story of Valentine's Day escapades while they deal with marriage, babies, and life in general. Things aren't always as rosy as they seem, but this gang somehow makes it work!

Reading this is one of my biggest fears realized. When marriage settles into comfort and there's the potential for love and passion to go away, it can become utterly terrifying. I'm ecstatic that each of these couples prove that love not only has the potential to be powerful, but also ever-lasting as long as you both continue to work at it on a daily basis. If that day ever comes for me, I could only hope to be so lucky!

We're finally at the last of the novels (thanks for sticking with me this far... we're almost there!). Moonlight On Nightingale Way focuses on Shannon's brother, Logan, and his time post-prison. This was a good story, and a bit different from the others in the series. Instead of two people jumping into an instant attraction and falling into bed together, they had to learn how to be civil neighbors, take on a task that somehow involved the both of them, work out all their kinks and faults, and then worry about love later on down the road.

Logan is amazing. He may have done time, but his heart has always been in the right place. I can't fault him for that at all. He may have thought Grace was uptight, but she's just who he needed to keep his head on straight and look forward to a positive future.

Of course, they are introduced to the whole gang and become family. Like I said, it's a bit hard to keep everyone and their kids straight, but I enjoyed watching this brood grow and evolve into the families they've become.

My Final Rating: four out of five stars

The last novella, and then we're done! One King's Way is a story that maybe didn't need to be told. I can't decide if this book was necessary in this series. It was nice to get a glimpse at one more character and his story, but I didn't love it as much as spending time with the other clan.

Rain and Craig could solve 99% of their problems if they would just communicate. A lot of their problems stemmed from made up scenarios in their heads. Also, their relationship progressed a bit quickly for my liking. It didn't seem believable to have the connection be that intense in that short a time frame. Maybe that's just me.

Rain and Craig had some issues with jealously and I felt they just handled them improperly. There was just something about their journey that I remained slightly disconnected from all throughout the story. Maybe if it was a longer book with more detail, I could get on board. I really feel this series would have been best if left off at the last book.

My Final Rating: three out of five stars
